Field Hockey Knocks Off Philly Biblical, 4-1
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (10/14/06) - Kean
University received goals from four different players en route to a
4-1 road victory over Philadelphia Biblical University, on Saturday
afternoon in field hockey action. With the win, the Cougars
improved to 7-5, while the Crimson Eagles fall to 6-6.
Kean raced out to a 3-0 first half behind goals by
Stephanie Cirino (Warminster, Pa.),
Brittany Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.) and freshman
Kelly Bircsak (East Windsor, N.J.). The goal for
Bircsak was the first of her career and it came on a penalty stroke
midway through the period. KU's Vicki Egerer (Washington,
N.J.) capped the scoring with a goal ten minutes into the
second half.
PBU spoiled the Cougars shutout when Mandy Stickler
(Hamburg, Pa.) scored with no time remaining off a penalty
corner. Kean out shot the Crimson Eagles15-9 in the win, while the
Cougars held an 5-3 advantage in penalty corners. Cougar freshman
goalie Jeni Barry (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) made
four saves in the win, while Katie Aungst (Ocean City,
N.J.) stopped eight shots for PBU.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, October 21 when they
travel to play Manhattanville College in a match-up at 1 p.m.
