Women's Soccer Defeats Wilkes, 1-0
UNION, N.J. (10/4/06) - Kean University junior goalkeeper
Samantha Groh (Mason, Mich.) made four saves, as the Cougars
defeated Wilkes University, 1-0, in non-conference women's soccer
action on Wednesday evening. The victory improved the Cougars to
8-2 overall, while Wilkes dropped to 7-3-1 overall.
Kean tallied the lone goal of the game on a Lady Colonel miscue, as
a Wilkes defender attempted to head the back to the keeper, however
the ball got by the goalie and went into the net in the 17th
minute.
Wilkes held a 14-9 edge in shots and a 1-0 advantage in corner
kicks.
For the Lady Colonels, junior goalie Liz Pauly (Medford Lakes,
N.J.) stopped three shots.
Playing in a downpour and wet field conditions most of the game,
the contest was delayed approximately 40 minutes at halftime due to
lightning.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, October 7, when they
travel to Ewing, N.J., to take on defending New Jersey Athletic
Conference champion The College of New Jersey at 1 p.m., in a
rematch of last season's NJAC title game.
