Men's Soccer Claims Fred Myers Invitational Championship

Cougars Claim Fred Myers Invitational Title

Delaware, Ohio (9/1/07) - The Kean University men's soccer team claimed the 2007 Fred Myers Invitational title by defeating host Ohio Wesleyan University, 2-0, Saturday evening.

For the second straight night the Cougars shutout their opponent as senior Kyle Crego (Ocean City, N.J.) recorded four saves.

Kean notched what would be the winning goal just over 12 minutes into the match as freshman Jerry Saintil (East Orange, N.J.) drilled a shot from 30 yards out.  The Cougars added an insurance goal as senior Damien Serafin (Wallington, N.J.) netted a goal of a turnover.

Four members of the squad were given All-Tournament honors as seniors Anthony Tuesta (Clifton, N.J.), Martin Garrido (Newark, N.J.) and Crego were named to the All-Tournament team.  Saintil, who scored the title game-winner, was given the Dick Gauthier Award as the Most Valuable Player.

The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday, September as they take on New York University in their home opener beginning at 7:30 p.m.
