Cougars Fall at Christopher Newport
Newport News, Va. (9/8/07) - Christopher
Newport University broke a 1-1 tie early in the first half and
didn't look back as they defeated Kean University, 8-1, in men's
soccer action Saturday evening at the Joe Pombriant/CNU Classic.
CNU (2-2) got on the board just seven minutes into the action as
Tyler Clare took a pass from Kevin Greenberg. Kean's lone
goal of the game then game in the 23rd minute as senior
Anthony Tuesta (Clifton, N.J.) had his
team-leading third goal of the season to tie the match at one.
The Captains then went on to score seven straight uncontested
goals to put the game out of reach.
Playing without two starters this evening after yesterday's
physical matchup, CNU outshot the Cougars 21-4 while also edging
Kean 9-5 in corner kicks.
After playing five games in the first eight days of action, Kean
will now take a well deserved week off from competition and open
NJAC play next Saturday, September 15th at Richard
Stockton College.
