MSU Slips Past Kean in NJAC
Tournament
Montclair, N.J. (11/1/08) - Freshman
Symone Seldon (Trenton, N.J.) netted the
game-winner just over five minutes into the match on a breakaway as
#4 Montclair State University defeated #5 Kean University, 2-0,
Saturday evening in the first-round of the New Jersey Athletic
Conference (NJAC) Tournament.
In a highly offensive and physical affair, MSU outshot the Cougars,
18-14, while Kean held a slight 4-3 edge in corner opportunities.
Kean (11-7) had their opportunities as freshman Danielle
Esposito (Holmdel, N.J.) (pictured right) had five shots,
including four on goal.
MSU (10-9-1) put the game away in the 77th minute as
sophomore Christyn Scillieri (Wayne, N.J.) took a feed
from Rachel Senyszyn (Succasunna, N.J.).
The Cougars had previously defeated the Red Hawks by a score of
1-0 exactly one month ago, but it was MSU who found the back of the
net this evening.
Sophomore keeper Leandra Russo (Galloway, N.J.)
stopped eight saves on the night in the loss.
Kean will play the waiting game to see if they receive a
post-season berth, announced next Monday, November 10th.
