Kean Breezes Past Drew, 18-4
UNION, N.J. (3/24/08) - Senior Derek
Gianakas (Edison, N.J.) was 3-for-3 with a homerun and
five RBI as Kean University defeated visiting Drew University,
18-4, Monday afternoon at Jim Hynes Stadium.
With the win the Cougars improve to 14-4 overall while the
Rangers fall to 3-10.
Drew got on the board first and plated a single run in the top
of the second as junior Zach Bircks (Columbus, N.J.) hit a
two-out RBI double. The Rangers tacked on two more runs in
the third as senior John Minio (Colts Neck, N.J.) hit a
two RBI double to give Drew a 3-0 advantage.
KU answered back with two runs in the bottom of the third as
Gianakas hit a two-run homer, his fourth of the season.
Kean then put the game away with nine runs in the fourth
highlighted by a two RBI single by sophomore Dave
Zavistoski (Edison, N.J.) and a two RBI triple by senior
Eric Ammirata (Hamilton, N.J.).
Offensively Ammirata was 1-for-2 with two RBI and three runs
scored while Zavistoski was 2-for-5 with three RBI. Sophomore
Chris Carrano (Lincoln Park, N.J.) (pictured
right) finished the afternoon with a 2-for-3 performance as well as
two runs scored and an RBI.
On the mound freshman Mike Hohman (Spotswood,
N.J.) earned the win in relief. Hohman (1-0) tossed
three and two thirds innings allowing one run, unearned, and just
two hits. He also struck out four and walked three.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, March 25th
as they take on the Rams of Farmingdale State College at 3 p.m.
