Cougars Claw Past Rams, 19-11

Freshman Amanda South (Fairless, Pa.) notched a
game-high five goals and five assists to lead the Kean University
women's lacrosse team to a 19-11 victory over visiting Farmingdale
State College Saturday afternoon at Kean Alumni Stadium.
Kean improves to 10-4 overall and 2-1 in the Skyline Conference
while the loss drops Farmingdale to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in
conference action.
The Cougars jumped out to an early 10-4 lead through the first 30
minutes of action. The Rams scored the game's first goal just
16 seconds into the first half as Jaclyn Messina (Smithtown,
N.Y.) picked up the draw control and ran the ball right in for
her first goal of the game. The Cougars then took control,
recording five straight goals for a comfortable 5-1 lead.
In the second half, KU led by as many 10 and held off a late
Rams rally for their 10th win of the season.
Freshman Rosalia Romeo (Ridgewood, N.J.)
(pictured right) registered five goals and an assist while junior
Stephanie Cirino (Warminster, Pa.) tallied two
goals and two assists for four points.
In goal, freshman Ashlie Berghold (Boyertown,
Pa.) recorded 14 saves in the win.
For the Rams, junior Theresa Rokee (Lindenhurst, N.Y.)
had three goals while teammate Justine Rothar (Levittown,
N.Y.) finished with three goals and an assist.
On the afternoon, Kean held an 18-14 advantage in draw controls
while also posting a 25-16 advantage in ground balls. The
Cougars outshot the Rams, 56-29.
Kean will return to action on Wednesday, April 23rd
against Ramapo College here at Kean beginning at 4 p.m.
