Softball Falls to #2 Ramapo in NJAC

MAHWAH, N.J. (4/30/08) - Junior first baseman
Marilee Farmer (Toms River, N.J.) hit a two-run homerun in
the bottom of the sixth inning to lift Ramapo College to a 2-0
victory over Kean University in the opening round of the New Jersey
Athletic Conference softball tournament on Wednesday
afternoon.
The second-seeded Roadrunners (33-8) advance to play #4 The
College of New Jersey on Friday, while the Cougars (28-13) face #6
William Paterson University in an elimination game earlier in the
day on Friday.
Senior right-hander Kristen Hennings (Jackson,
N.J.) pitched stellar for the second straight game against
Ramapo, however was on the losing end of the 2-0 game after
defeating the Roadrunners, 2-0, in the regular season finale last
Saturday afternoon.
After tossing 12 straight scoreless innings against the
Roadrunners, Hennings (pictured right) battled with Roadrunner
senior right-hander Katie Norton (Livingston, N.J.)
through five scoreless innings.
In the bottom of the sixth, Ramapo junior catcher Kelly
Schriber (Montclair, N.J.) singled to left field with one out
in the sixth inning before Farmer drove the first pitch over the
left field fence.
The Cougars put the tying runs on base with two outs in the top
of the seventh inning, as junior Sara Steinman
(Springfield, N.J.) and senior Johanna Hedler
(South Plainfield, N.J.) each singled, however Norton
forced a line out to end the game.
Hennings (5-6) scattered eight hits and walked just one in the
complete game.
At the plate, senior first baseman Katie Hicks (Medford Lakes,
N.J.) was 3-of-3, while Steinman added a pair of hits for the
Cougars.
Kean faces William Paterson on Friday, May 2, at Montclair State
University Softball Stadium at 11:00 a.m.
