First Inning Sends Kean Past FDU
Florham, 5-1
Union, N.J. (2/25/09) -Southpaw Ryan Zamorsky
(Branchburg, N.J.) tossed eight innings in his rookie
debut allowing just one run as #4/7 Kean University picked up their
third straight win of the 2009 season defeating FDU College at
Florham, 5-1, Wednesday afternoon at Jim Hynes Stadium.
The Cougars (3-0) scored all five of their runs in the bottom of
the first and that would be all that they would need.
Freshman Dylan Laguna (Edison, N.J.) got things
started with a leadoff single and would later score the game's
first run on a Lee Cavico (North Brunswick, N.J.)
(pictured right) single. Junior Nick Nolan (Linden,
N.J.) followed that with a two RBI double down the line to
give KU a 3-0 advantage. Sophomore Kyle Walker
(Piscataway, N.J.) answered again with an RBI triple and
later scored on an RBI groundout to round out the scoring.
The Devils (0-1) pushed across their only run in the top of the
fifth as Jimmy Sheppard (Gladstone, N.J.) scored on an RBI
groundout.
Zamorsky (1-0) (pictured left) picked up the win in his first
collegiate outing. He allowed nine hits while walking one and
fanning five. Senior Drew Campbell (Hillsborough,
N.J.) threw a scoreless ninth to close out the game.
Freshman Matt Mizerek (Matawan, N.J.) picked up the
loss for FDU. He allowed five runs, all earned, in two
innings of work. In all, the Devils used six pitchers in
their 2009 opener.
Offensively, Nolan was 2-for-4 with two RBI while Laguna was
2-for-4 with a runs scored.
Kean returns to action on Thursday, February 26th in
