Baseball Drops Third Straight,
8-5
Redlands, Calif. (3/17/09) -
Despite having the same amount of hits, the University of Redlands
defeated #8 Kean University, 8-5, Tuesday afternoon at The Yard.
Kean (10-4) jumped on the board first with a single run in the
first inning as freshman D.J. Breckenridge (Fair Haven,
N.J.) crossed the plate after reaching on a leadoff
single. But that would be the last lead KU would hold as
Redlands (13-4) added five runs between the first and third
innings.
The Cougars staged a late rally in the top of the eighth inning
down 8-3. Kean got things going with back-to-back-to-back
singles to start off the frame. After two consecutive outs,
pinch-hitter Dylan Laguna (Edison, N.J.) singled
down the leftfield line to drive in two, and pull KU within three
at 8-5. But that would be as close as the Cougars would get.
Senior Colin Feneis (Spotswood, N.J.) suffered
the loss. Feneis (1-1) allowed six runs, three earned, and
six hits in four and two thirds innings of work.
Offensively freshman Lee Cavico (North Brunswick,
N.J.) was 2-for-4 with a solo blast while freshmen
Vinny Galya (Old Bridge, N.J.) and Breckenridge
(pictured right) each had two hits.
Kean will square off against #7 Chapman University on Wednesday
at 7 p.m. local time.
