Ramirez Delivers In Extras; KU
Defeats Whittier, 8-6
Whittier, Calif. (3/19/09) - Sophomore Gabe
Ramirez (North Bergen, N.J.) drove in the winning runs in
the top of the tenth as #8 Kean University defeated Whittier
College, 8-6, Thursday afternoon in the final game of their
California Spring Trip.
With one out in the 10th inning, freshman Lee
Cavico (North Brunswick, N.J.) doubled down the leftfield
line. Rookie Nick Ramagli (Emerson, N.J.)
then reached on a fielders choice which moved Cavico over to third
base. After Ramagli stole second, Ramirez then delivered a
hard bouncer over the third baseman's head to drive in both.
Kean, who improves to 12-4, was led by Cavico (pictured right)
who was 3-for-5 with a solo shot, his third of the year, and two
doubles. Junior Mike Moceri (Yardville,
N.J.) was 2-for-5 with two RBI while teammate
Jared Orgel (East Hanover, N.J.) was 1-for-4 with
two RBI.
Senior Drew Campbell (Hillsborough, N.J.)
earned the win in relief. Campbell (2-0) tossed five and a
third innings allowing one run and eight hits. He struck out
two and walked no one.
Kean returns to action on Sunday, March 22 when they face
Keystone College at 1 p.m. at Jim Hynes Field.
