Women's Lax Records Second Straight
Shutout Victory
UNION, N.J. (4/10/09) - Junior defender
Chelsea Davis (Livingston, N.J.) scored two goals
and added one assist, six draw controls, five groundballs and four
caused turnovers to lead the Kean University women's lacrosse team
to a 14-0 shutout over Polytechnic Institute of NYU in Skyline
Conference action on Friday afternoon.
Sophomore midfielder Kelly Mataya (Woodland Park,
N.J.) added one goal and a game-high three assists, as the
Cougars (5-7, 3-0 Skyline) won their third straight game.
Senior goalkeeper Anne Li (Long Island City, N.Y.) made 20
saves for the Fighting Blue Jays (0-7, 0-3 Skyline).
The Cougars scored twice in the opening 10 minutes, as sophomore
Erica Kelly (West Deptford, N.J.) put Kean on the
scoreboard, scoring off the assist by sophomore Amanda
South (Fairless, Pa.) just 4:08 into the contest.
Kean scored 10 goals in the final 17:24 of the first half
en-route to taking a 12-0 lead at halftime, as nine different
Cougars recorded points. Li made 18 saves on 32 Cougar shots
for Polytechnic.
In the second half, junior Julie Bachovchin (Piscataway,
N.J.) and senior Stephanie Cirino (Warminster,
Pa.) scored goal in the first 7:02 of the half before the
Cougars held onto the ball for a most of the remainder of the
contest to record their second straight 14-0 shutout over Skyline
opponents.
Cirino, Bachovchin and Kelly (pictured right) each had two
goals and one assist in the victory.
The Cougars return to action next Wednesday, April 15, when they
take on host Ramapo College in both a Skyline and New Jersey
Athletic Conference game at 4 p.m.
