southpaw Nick Cesare (South Plainfield, N.J.)
tossed a complete game three-hit shutout as #5/12 Kean University
swept the regular season series by defeating New Jersey City
University, 13-0, Friday afternoon.
Kean posts back-to-back shutouts for the first time since April,
2008.
Cesare (2-2) (pictured right) also struck out five and didn't
record a walk as Kean improved to 24-7 overall and 8-3 in NJAC
action. NJCU recorded just three singles as they fell to
12-18-1 and 2-8 in conference action.
Kean got all the runs they would need in the top of the first,
plating seven runs, all with two outs. Junior Michael
Diaz (Westfield, N.J.) was the first runner aboard,
reaching on a hit-by-pitch. The Cougars then exploded with
seven consecutive hits including an RBI double from Mike
Moceri (Yardville, N.J.), an RBI double from Kyle
Walker (Piscataway, N.J.) and a two RBI single from
D.J. Breckenridge (Fair Haven, N.J.).
KU would tack on four more runs in the top of the third and two
more in the top of the sixth.
Moceri was 2-for-5 with two RBI and two doubles, giving him 15
already this season. Breckenridge was 3-for-6 with two RBI
while infielder Dave Zavistoski (Edison, N.J.) was
2-for-4 with three RBI. Freshman Lee Cavico (North
Brunswick, N.J.) (pictured left) was 3-for-4 with three
runs scored and catcher Mike Manganiello (Berkeley Heights,
N.J.) was 2-for-3.
Kean returns to NJAC action on Saturday, April 18th
when they face-off against Rutgers-Camden at noon.
