Jersey City, N.J. (4/17/09) - Junior southpaw Nick Cesare (South Plainfield, N.J.) tossed a complete game three-hit shutout as #5/12 Kean University swept the regular season series by defeating New Jersey City University, 13-0, Friday afternoon.

Kean posts back-to-back shutouts for the first time since April, 2008.

Cesare (2-2) (pictured right) also struck out five and didn't record a walk as Kean improved to 24-7 overall and 8-3 in NJAC action.  NJCU recorded just three singles as they fell to 12-18-1 and 2-8 in conference action.

Kean got all the runs they would need in the top of the first, plating seven runs, all with two outs.  Junior Michael Diaz (Westfield, N.J.) was the first runner aboard, reaching on a hit-by-pitch.  The Cougars then exploded with seven consecutive hits including an RBI double from Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.), an RBI double from Kyle Walker (Piscataway, N.J.) and a two RBI single from D.J. Breckenridge (Fair Haven, N.J.).

KU would tack on four more runs in the top of the third and two more in the top of the sixth.

Moceri was 2-for-5 with two RBI and two doubles, giving him 15 already this season.  Breckenridge was 3-for-6 with two RBI while infielder Dave Zavistoski (Edison, N.J.) was 2-for-4 with three RBI.  Freshman Lee Cavico (North Brunswick, N.J.) (pictured left) was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and catcher Mike Manganiello (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) was 2-for-3.

Kean returns to NJAC action on Saturday, April 18th when they face-off against Rutgers-Camden at noon.
