Gibbs Scores Four Times in 5-0
Victory Over Vassar

Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.) scored four goals to lead the
Kean University field hockey team to a 5-0 victory over visiting
Vassar College on Saturday evening.
Gibbs (pictured right) netted the first four goals of the game
for the Cougars (2-0), who scored at least five goals for the
second straight game and posted their second straight shutout to
open the season.
For the Brewers (0-2), goalkeepers Rachel Clarkin-Breslin
(Litchfield, N.J.) and Rachel Horwitz (Beverly Hills,
Calif.) each made four saves.
Gibbs opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game, as
she collected the rebound off her first shot and made the second
attempt count for the 1-0 lead just 1:51 into the contest.
She added her second goal of the game with less than four
minutes remaining in the opening half, scoring off the assist from
junior Kelly Mataya (Woodland Park, N.J.) for the
2-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, Gibbs picked right up where she left off,
scoring twice in a 51 second span in the opening minutes to extend
the Cougar lead to 4-0.
Sophomore Nicole Torre (Toms River, N.J.)
closed out the scoring for Kean, collecting her first goal of the
season off of Mataya's third assist of the game.
Kean held a 20-1 advantage in shots and a 11-1 edge in penalty
corners.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, September 9, when
they host FDU College at Florham at 7:00 p.m.
