Lizzi Leads Kean Past Framingham,
McDaniel
KISSIMMEE, Fla.
(3/17/10) – Senior centerfielder Allison
Lizzi was a perfect 6-of-6 with five RBI and pitchers Cassie
Shotwell and Courtney Smyth earned complete game victories for the
second straight day to lead the Kean University softball team to
wins over Framingham State College (4-1) and McDaniel College (3-2)
at the Rebel Spring Games on Wednesday.
GAME ONE: Shotwell, Lizzi Lift Kean Past Framingham,
4-1
Senior Cassie Shotwell (Dunellen, N.J) homered
and earned the complete game victory, whiel senior Allison
Lizzi (Cherry Hill, N.J.) was a perfect 3-of-3 with two
RBI, as the Cougars (6-2) defeated Framingham State College, 4-1,
in the opener on Wednesday morning.
After Framingham (2-3) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first
inning, the Cougars would get the run back when freshman
Katie Schuh (Mount Holly, N.J.) (pictured right)
led off with a single up the middle, moved over to second on a
sacrifice bunt by junior Lindsay Kennedy (Parsippany,
N.J.) and scored on a two-out double by Lizzi.
The Cougars then scored three runs in the third tinning, as
Lizzi had her second RBI double of the game to score sophomore
Alicia Banz (Carteret, N.J.) and Shotwell followed
two batters later with her first homerun of the season, a two-run
shot over the left field fence.
On the mound, Shotwell (3-1) scattered four hits and three
walks, while striking out seven.
Schuh and Banz each finished 1-of-2 with one run scored.
GAME TWO: Lizzi Ends Perfect Day with Two-Run
Homerun to Lift Cougars
Senior Allison Lizzi hit a two-run homerun in the
top of the sixth inning to erase a one-run lead and junior
Courtney Smyth (Abington, Pa.) (pictured left)
earned the complete game victory to lead the Cougars to a
come-from-behind 3-2 win over McDaniel (4-6) on Wednesday
afternoon.
Both teams scored runs in the first inning, as freshman
Katie Schuh led off with a single and would score
on a double by Lizzi for the second straight game, and McDaniel
answered with back-to-back doubles by sophomore Errine
Warrenfeltz (Smithsburg, Md.) and sophomore Samantha Staub
(Mt. Airy, Md.).
The Green Terror took the lead in the fifth inning, when
sophomore Jordan Beans (Hanover, Pa.) dropped a
single in just behind first base, allowing junior Brittany
Jarboe (Baltimore, Md.) to score from second base.
In the top of the sixth inning, sophomore Alicia
Banz drew a one-out walk, and Lizzi followed with the
homerun over the centerfield fence for her second homerun of the
season.
Lizzi finished 3-of-3 and drove in all three runs for the
Cougars, while Schuh was 2-of-4 with one run scored.
Smyth (3-1) went the distance, scattering five hits and three
strikeouts.
The Cougars close out their spring break trip on Friday, March
19, when they face Utica College (9 a.m.) and Hood College (1
p.m.).
