Cougars Shutout Mt. St. Vincent,
15-0
Union, N.J. (4/14/10) – The #19/22 Kean
University baseball team banged out 15 runs on 19 hits as they
shutout the visiting Dolphins of the College of Mt. St. Vincent,
15-0, Wednesday afternoon at Jim Hynes Stadium.
Freshman Greg Baruka (Florham Park, N.J.) tossed
six innings allowing just four hits and fanning five to improve to
4-1 this season. Freshmen Chris Judge (Belleville,
N.J.) and Jon Coleman (Rockaway, N.J.)
combined for three innings of shutout ball with just one hit and no
walks.
The Cougars (17-9) jumped on the board quickly with a seven spot
in the first inning. Sophomore D.J. Breckenridge
(Fair Haven, N.J.) got things going with a leadoff
walk. Senior Dave Zavistoski (Edison, N.J.)
then ripped his first of two triples on the afternoon. Kean
then
rolled off four straight singles, with an RBI from senior
Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.) and sophomore
Dylan Laguna (Edison, N.J.). Junior
Nick Nolan (Linden, N.J.) then lined a ground-rule
double down the line for two RBI, his first of two doubles on the
afternoon. Freshman Steve Nappe (Edison,
N.J.) followed with a two RBI, ground-rule double of his
own to round out the scoring in the first frame.
Offensively Moceri was 3-for-4 with four RBI while junior
Ken Gregory (Pittstown, N.J.) was 4-for-5 with two
doubles.
For the Dolphins Mike Pope and Christian
Lavery each had two hits.
Kean returns to conference action on Thursday when they travel
to take on Rutgers-Camden at 3:30 p.m.
