Kean Rallies Again; Defeats
Stockton, 7-3
Pomona, N.J. (4/30/10) – The Cougars
scored four runs in the 12th inning to break a 3-3 tie
as they defeated host Richard Stockton College, 7-3, Friday
afternoon in NJAC action.
In the 12th inning, Ken Gregory ripped a two-run
double to give Kean (26-10, 11-5 NJAC ) a 5-3 lead and Nick
Nolan blasted a his ninth home run of the season two
batters later for two of his three RBI on the day. Senior
Steve Montalbano, who entered in relief, struck
out the side in the bottom of the 12th to clinch the 7-3 victory.
Kean scored once in the first inning and increased its lead to
3-0 on RBI singles by Kyle Walker and Nolan in the
third frame. Stockton got on the board on an RBI double by
Nick Scalise in the fifth inning. The Ospreys
(18-16, 8-8) tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth when
Matt Allen doubled in a run and then scored on a single by
Marc Asta. The teams battled through three scoreless
innings before Kean broke the tie.
Gregory went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI while Walker was
3-for-6 with two RBI for the Cougars. Montalbano earned the
win with terrific relief pitching, yielding just one hit with eight
strikeouts in four and a third scoreless innings.
Allen finished 3-for-5 with a double, run scored and an
RBI. Barry Larro and Dan McGuckin each went
2-for-5 for the Ospreys.
Kean concludes their regular season NJAC slate tomorrow when
they host William Paterson University at 11:30 a.m.
