ALLENTOWN, Pa. (9/4/10) – Senior
Kelly Mataya and junior Olivia Triano each had a goal and an assist to lead the Kean
University field hockey team to its second straight shutout with a
3-0 victory over host Muhlenberg College at the Mule Classic on
Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars (2-1) held a 27-2 advantage in shots and a 20-4 edge
in penalty corners over Muhlenberg (0-2).
Rookie Katelin Lezette (pictured right) opened
the scoring for the Cougars early in the first half, when she
slammed in the loose ball off the assist from senior Joelle Vitale.
In the second half, Mataya took a pass from Triano and scored
from the top of the circle at just under the 56 minute mark.
Less than seven minutes later, she returned the favor with a pass
from the right side to Triano, who knocked in the long shot for the
final goal of the game.
Muhlenberg goalkeeper Kristen Dornenburg made 16 saves
in the game.
The Cougars have eight days off before returning to action on
Sunday, September 12, when they travel to Roanoke College for a
non-conference game at 1 p.m.
