Women's Soccer Cruises Past Ramapo, 6-1

MAHWAH, N.J. (10/1/11) – The Kean University women's soccer team scored five second-half goals to defeat Ramapo College, 6-1, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars (8-2-1, 5-0 NJAC) scored four times in a 5:13 span midway through the second half to break open the game.  Kean held a 22-10 advantage in shots and 7-2 edge in corner kicks over Ramapo (1-6-2, 0-4 NJAC).

Junior Julianna Natale netted the game-winner in the 31st minute, scoring on a penalty kick for her third goal o f the season.

In the second half, junior Jaclyn Janicky (pictured left) scored her first goal of the season in the 58th minute off the assist by junior Carly Seidel to extend the lead to 2-0.

Seidel then started the four-goal scoring spree with an unassisted goal in the 69th minute.  After the Roadrunners got on the board with an unassisted goal by Liz Samimi in the 70th minute, rookie Shelby Pedersen netted back-to-back goals just 45 seconds apart to extend the lead to 5-1 in the 74th minute. 

Sophomore Shannon Pedersen joined her sister in the scoring column, when she netted the unassisted goal in the 80th minute to close out the scoring. 

Roadrunner goalkeeper Talia Austin made 10 saves, while Kean keeper Kaitlin King stopped one shot.

The Cougars host Marywood College on Thursday, October 6th at 7:30 p.m.
