GLASSBORO, N.J. (10/21/11) – Rowan
University scored six second-half goals to defeat Kean University,
6-3, in New Jersey Athletic Conference field hockey action on
Friday evening.
The #17 Profs (12-5, 4-1 NJAC) erased a 2-0 deficit and scored
the final three goals of the game against the Cougars (9-5, 3-3
NJAC).
Kean took an early 1-0 lead just minutes into the game when
sophomore Stephanie Soares knocked in the
unassisted goal into the right corner from the left side. The
Cougars extended the lead to 2-0 in the final minutes of the
opening half, as junior Kelly Bachovchin had a
blast from the right side into the left corner with just 2:51
remaining in the half.
The Profs quickly tied the game with a pair of goals in the first
seven minutes of the second half. Julie Carone cut
the Kean lead in half with an unassisted goal just 5:14 into the
half, before Rachael Dix knotted the game at 2-2 just 86
seconds later.
Dix would give the Profs their first lead of the game at 47:01,
when she took the pass from Lauren Connor, dribbled past a
Kean defender and scored for the 3-2 lead.
Kean senior Olivia Triano (pictured left) would
tie the game one final time less than a minute later, scoring the
unassisted goal with her blast from the top of the circle only 46
seconds later.
The Profs would take the lead for good on a goal by Janice
Camlin at 51:43, before closing out the scoring with two goals
in the final 10 minutes.
Rowan held a 20-7 advantage in shots and had 12-7 edge in
penalty corners.
The Cougars travel to Mercy College on Tuesday, October 25, for
a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
