Field Hockey Falls in Overtime to Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 2-1

STANDISH, Maine (9/10/11) – The Kean University field hockey team held a 19-8 advantage in shots and a 17-2 edge in penalty corners, however Saint Joseph's College of Maine posted a 2-1 win in overtime over the visiting Cougars on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Stephanie Soares scored the lone goal for the Cougars (1-2), while Tara Cowin netted the game-winner for the Monks (2-0).

Soares got the Cougars on board first, giving Kean the 1-0 lead at the 19:14 mark of the first half on the unassisted goal.

The score would remain that way with less than 15 minutes remaining in the game, as the Monks tied the game when Sarah Bartell scored off the assist from Peyton Dostie.

The Monks scored the game-winner just 3:03 into overtime, as Dostie assisted on the goal by Cowin.

Soares and senior Olivia Triano combined for 13 of the shots for the Cougars, while goalkeeper Erin Langan made five saves.

For the Monks, Meaghan Johnson stopped 13 shots in the victory.

Kean returns to action tomorrow, when they face host Thomas College (Maine) at Noon.
