Huntingdon, Pa. (11/17/12) – The Penn
State Altoona men's basketball team used a late run in the
final minute of action to break a 65-all tie and defeat Kean
University, 71-65, Saturday afternoon in the Coaches vs. Cancer
Tournament.
Junior Michael Burton led the Cougars (0-2)
with 15 points.
It was Kean that took control early in the contest, leading by as
many as 12 midway through the first half as sophomore J.J.
Hladik registered a trey with 10:19 remaining, putting the
score at 21-9. The Cougars pushed the lead again to 12 on a
trey from freshman Mike Diamond, with 1:29 to go
in the first stanza.
Heading into the break with a 34-26 advantage, senior
Mike Shaughnessy and rookie Frank
Nock each tallied seven points while teammate Kyle
Latorre added four rebounds.
With 12:41 to go in the matchup, Altoona tied things up at
46-all on a three-pointer from Jonathan Ross. The
teams then battled back and forth in a see-saw matchup before the
Lions rallied in the final minute of action to pull away with the
win.
Nock (pictured left) finished with 12 points and nine rebounds
while Latorre added nine points and six rebounds.
Kean returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Richard
Stockton College.
