#8 Baseball Sweeps NJAC Twinbill from Richard Stockton

Union, N.J. (4/14/12) - Kean University, behind a pair of strong pitching performances and clutch hitting, swept Richard Stockton 4-3 and 2-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) baseball doubleheader this afternoon. With the sweep, the Cougars remained tied atop the conference with an 8-2 mark in the NJAC and improved to 23-7 overall, while the Ospreys fall to 16-13 overall 4-6 in conference play. 

GAME ONE: Laguna's 2 RBI Double Propels the Cougars past Ospreys, 4-3

Stockton starter Mark Crescenzi kept the Cougars off balance until to bottom of the sixth when Nick Ramagli led off with a single and then after an out moved to third on a single by Steve Sanguiliano. Senior catcher Eddie Jennings would notch a hit-and-run RBI single to put the runners on the corners which set up Dylan Laguna to smash a ball down the right field line to score the tying and go ahead runs.

Kean starter Kevin Herget (pictured left) gave up just three runs on 11 hits, while striking out four in eight innings of work to pick up the win and improve to 5-2, while Sanguiliano struck out two to close the game for his sixth save of the season. 

Stockton opened up a 1-0 lead in the first when Barry Larro doubled to lead off the game and then later in the inning Mike Wasco doubled him home. Kean tied the game in the bottom of the same inning when with two outs, Sanguiliano singled home Shane Alvarez, who doubled in the inning.

The Ospreys would retake the lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Mike Scalise and added its third run on a sacrifice fly by Wasco.

GAME TWO: ZAMORSKY, JENNINGS LEAD COUGARS TO 2-0 WIN

Senior south paw Ryan Zamorsky tossed a complete game shutout allowing just five hits to improve to 5-1, while lowering his ERA to just 1.01. Jennings was the lone offensive star going 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. In the doubleheader Jennings was 6-for-8, driving in two runs while scoring a pair.

Kean jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth, when Joe O'Connor delivered a two-out RBI to drive in Jennings (pictured left), who singled earlier in the frame.  Kean was able to tack on an insurance run in the sixth when Sanguiliano led off with a triple to left center and then Jennings followed with a soft liner to right field over the drawn-in infield to plate the last run of the game.

For Stockton, Drew Holt (4-3) was the hard luck loser as he went the distance allowing just a pair of runs on nine hits and striking out four batters. At the plate for Scalise was 2-for-3 and Brett Solomen added a double in three at bats.
