Hillburn, N.Y. (5/2/12) – Junior Lyndsey Cannon set new single-season Kean standards in goals and points while breaking the career assist mark as the women's lacrosse team fell to Division II St. Thomas Aquinas College, 15-12, Wednesday evening.
Cannon has now recorded 80 goals this season, while totaling 102 points, both new single-season marks for the program. Cannon tops the previous marks of 78 goals and 99 points both set by Stephanie Cirino in 2008. Cannon has collected 65 assists in her first three seasons, setting a new career record previously held by Amanda South, with 64.
In tonight's action both teams see-sawed in early action before the Spartans (8-7) used a three goal spurt to take a 6-2 lead. The Cougars (9-8) responded with two quick goals from Cannon and junior Stephanie Tocko, to pull within two at 6-4. Both teams then traded goals for the remainder of the first half with St. Thomas taking an 8-6 advantage into the break.
Sophomore Ciara Mastrodomenico led the Cougars with three first half goals.
Kean pulled within one goal on two occasions early in the second half, but the Spartans used a four goal run spanning five minutes to take their largest lead of the night, 15-9, and would hold on for the win.
Mastrodomenico led Kean with four goals while Cannon finished with three goals and an assist.
