YORK, Pa. (8/31/12) – Junior Korri Thompson knocked in the game-winning goal with less than five minutes remaining to lead the Kean University field hockey team to a 3-2 win over Randolph-Macon College in the 2012 season opener on Friday afternoon at the Spartan Tournament at York College (Pa.).
After Randolph-Macon took a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the game, junior Stephanie Soares (pictured left) scored a pair of first-half goals, giving Kean a 2-1 lead with her second goal off the assist from freshman Laura Cheatham with just 19 seconds left in the half.
The Yellow Jackets tied the game with 12:19 remaining on an unassisted goal by Lauren Seal, before Thompson knocked in the game-winner with a hard shot from the top of the circle with just 4:29 left in the game.
Junior goalkeeper Erin Langan made one save in the win for Kean.
The Cougars face Alvernia University in the championship game at 3 p.m.
