Appleton, Wis. (5/24/13) – Seniors Kevin Herget and Nick Ramagli have been selected as American Baseball Coaches Association All-Americans while teammate Tyler Smarslok was honored with a Rawlings National Gold Glove.
The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove team is comprised of nine players (one at each position) to commend their defensive efforts on the field. Smarslok joins former Cougars Chris Carrano, Mike Moceri, Maikel De La Rosa, Perry Schatzow and Dan Zeffiro who previously earned the award.
Smarslok has recorded a .987 fielding percentage this season after collecting 103 putouts and 129 assists while committing just three errors. He has also been a part of 21 double plays. Smarslok was the only junior named to the squad, as eight seniors were selected for every other position.
Herget was tabbed as a second-team All-American after recording a 9-2 record with 97 strikeouts and a 1.57 ERA. Herget was recently named a D3baseball.com Second-Team All-American in addition to NJAC and NJCBA Pitcher of the Year. Herget currently owns the Kean career marks of strikeouts, wins and innings pitched.
Ramagli was selected as a third-team All-American after posting a .369 batting average in 47 starts this spring. He leads the team in hits, doubles, homeruns, slugging percentage and on base percentage. Ramalgi was named the NJAC Player of the Year while recently being named a third-team All-American for D3baseball.com. Ramagli also garnered Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year honors from D3baseball.com.
