UNION, N.J. (9/21/13) - Senior Korri Thompson netted three first half goals, and classmate Stephanie Soares chipped in two more, as the Kean University Field Hockey team rolled to a 8-2 victory over Roanoke College on Saturday afternoon.
Thompson got the Cougars (8-0) on the board early, connecting for her first goal just 1:03 into the opening stanza as she knocked her own rebound past the Maroons (1-4) keeper. Just six minutes later, Laura Cheatham connected off a feed from Thompson to make it 2-0. With 10 minutes remaining in the first half, Thompson completed her first half hat trick by drilling the ball into the back of the cage off a pass from Claire Keenan. Soares closed out the first half scoring with two goals in a span of 1:05, the second coming off an assist from Thompson, who finished the first half with three goals and two assists.
The Maroons opened the half with a goal, but Thompson added her fourth of the game with just under 15 minutes remaining in the match. Kelli Jasinski added a goal for the Maroons shortly after, but the Cougar defense stifled the Maroons for the remainder of the game.
Katie DiCarlo, Alexandra Hesley and Brooke Roderick combined to make two saves, and Stephanie Rios added a defensive save for the Cougars. Candice Fisher made 10 saves in the losing effort.
The Cougars return to NJAC action on Tuesday September 24th, as they travel to Ewing to battle #12 The College of New Jersey at 7pm.
