Wayne, N.J. (10/12/14) – The Kean University women's soccer team pulled out a 2-1 win in double overtime over William Paterson University in a rescheduled NJAC match on Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars improve to 9-4, 3-3 in the NJAC while the Pioneers fall to 4-6-3 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Kean struck first when freshman back Shannon Brown (pictured left) sent a cross from the right end line that sophomore forward Kayla Birth knocked in from just in front of the goal mouth 3:26 into the contest.
Junior midfielder Gina Cowdrick provided the equalizer 2:06 before halftime when she got on the end of freshman back Adrianna Oliveira's corner kick and redirected the loose ball from the middle of the box towards the left post.
Kean had the best opportunity of the second half when freshman forward Emily Jurcsek played a through ball for sophomore forward Jordyn Bronsky, but her attempt was just wide of the left post during the final minute of regulation.
Bronsky played another ball up the right side, and this time freshman forward Kaitlyn Pallitto was able to get the shot on frame past a charging Angela Sandelli for the game winner 2:39 into the second overtime period.
Junior KC Nunez posted five stops in the win while Sandelli made three saves for WP.
The Cougars stay on the road and travel to Montclair State University on Wednesday evening.
