MADISON, N.J. (8/29/14) – The Kean University men's soccer team forced overtime against Susquehanna University on Friday after a scoreless 90 minutes, but came up on the short end of a 1-0 result in the season opener for both schools.
Kean fired a total of 14 shots toward the net in the contest – seven in each half – but goalkeeper Zach Zoller of the Crusaders was there to stymie each Cougar attempt. Kean goalie Brad Watkins (pictured left) matched Zoller throughout regulation; the sophomore made five saves in his 93 minutes of work.
Susquehanna finally broke through at 93:01, when David Trank sent a volley from the goalline over to Joe DeLuca, who headed home the game-winner.
Freshman Alex Noriega led Kean with three shots, and both Carmine Colasurdo and Pablo Valle fired two shots on goal for the Cougars during the match.
Kean will return to the Drew Fall Festival on Saturday to play the homestanding Rangers at 5 p.m.
