Galloway, N.J. (4/11/15) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team used a second half surge to pull away from Stockton University on Saturday evening in a 12-4 New Jersey Athletic Conference win.
The Cougars led from start to finish as junior Jordan Blanda and senior Meghan Schneck each tallied hat tricks in the win. Kean improves to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in the NJAC.
Kean used goals from Blanda, Sam Gnapp and Brittany Ballack all in the first five minutes of action to take a quick 3-0 lead. The Cougars headed into the break with a 4-2 advantage.
The Cougars again surged from the opening whistle, tallying another three goals in the first five minutes of the second half, this time off of free position goals from Ballack and Schneck (pictured left) along with a goal from senior Maggie Brocklebank for a 7-2 lead. Stockton's Lauren Ivancich provided back-to-back goals forty seconds apart to pull the Ospreys within three (7-4), but that would be as close as they would get. Kean shut them down from there and added five more to the tally along the way.
Rookie Nikki Apostolopoulos recorded 11 saves in the complete game effort.
Offensively, Blanda added five draw controls along with three groundballs while freshman Eliza Clark provided a goal, three groundballs, three draw controls and a caused turnover.
The Cougars enjoy a short break before heading to the College at Old Westbury on Thursday afternoon.
