Baseball Bows Out of NCAA Tournament

YORK, Pa. (5/15/15) – Sixth seeded Misericordia University defeated top seeded Kean University in an elimination game on Friday at the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional at Santander Stadium.

Misericordia will advance to play No. 3 Johns Hopkins for a second time this tournament tonight at 7:45 p.m.

Misericordia (31-12) opened the game with two runs on three hits in the top of the first for a 2-0 lead. They added one run on two hits in the top of the third to push their lead to 3-0.

Kean (35-12) threatened in the bottom of the fourth, but with two outs Misericorida's D.J. Navoczynski got the runner going from second to home to end the inning and keep a 3-0 lead.

In the sixth inning, Kean scored two runs on three hits to cut the deficit to 3-2.  With one out, junior Ryan Reitmeyer lined a double and moved 90 feet away on a wild pitch.  Junior Ryan Kelley tallied an RBI single to put Kean on the board.  With two outs later in the inning, freshman Matt Krupa delivered an RBI single and got Kean within one, 3-2.

Misericordia pushed the lead out to 4-2 in the seventh and put the game out of reach with two more in the eighth for the final of 6-2.

Junior Sal Taormina was 2-for-4 with Krupa finishing the same.

Misericordia's Chris Boroch led the team going 3-for-4 with a walk, RBI and run scored. Kyle Lindsay was 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored.

Misericordia and Johns Hopkins met on the opening day where Misericordia defeated the Blue Jays by a score of 6-4. The two teams will meet again in an elimination game this evening at approximately 7:45 p.m.
