Union, N.J. (4/7/17) – Rob DeAngelis was 3-for-5 with three run scored and two doubles to lead the Ramapo College baseball to an 8-2 win over Kean University on Friday afternoon in NJAC action.
With the loss Kean falls to 14-9 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Ramapo (8-10) improves to 2-1 in the NJAC.
The Roadrunners used a balanced scoring attack with single runs in the first three innings to take a lead they would not relinquish. Ramapo pushed the lead to 4-0 in the seventh as pinch-hitter Matt Meola provided a two-out, RBI single up the middle on the first pitch he saw.
The Cougars cut the deficit in half as Steve Santigate doubled with one out and Mike Fidanza followed with a single. Austin Arndt erased the shutout with an RBI single in the hole. Brian Cole's (pictured left) looping single later in the frame made it 4-2.
That would be as close as Kean would get as the Roadrunners tacked on four more in the eighth, three on an Austin Unglaub homer.
John Doherty (1-0) earned his first decision of the season allowing two runs and five hits in six and a third innings. He walked five and struck out seven. Tyler Hopman (4-2) suffered the loss after tossing seven innings allowing three earned runs with six strikeouts.
Kean returns to action on Saturday when they host Stockton University at 11:30 a.m. in an NJAC doubleheader.
