Port Charlotte, Fla. (3/13/18) – The Kean University baseball team registered 16 hits but could not push through in extras as Marietta College defeated the Cougars, 7-6, on Tuesday afternoon.
In the deciding 10th inning, Marietta put two runners aboard with one out. Brady Cottom delivered with a single up the middle to plate the go-ahead and winning run.
It was a back-and-forth affair throughout as Marietta took a quick 2-0 lead in the second with two unearned runs.
The Cougars (6-7) responded and tied things up in the third as Anthony Laureano and Ryan Ruziecki both crossed the plate for Kean.
Kean took their final lead of the day in the eighth. Trailing 5-4, Steve Santigate tied things up with a bases-loaded groundout and Matt Krupa followed with a hustle RBI single down the third-base line.
Seamus Kenneally registered a two-out, RBI single in the ninth to knot the game back up at six-all.
Kean out-hit the Pioneers, 16-12.
Jimi Fitzgerald was 3-for-4 for the Cougars with an RBI while John Carello, Andrew Ferrara, Krupa and Laureano all had two hits in the loss.
Kean returns to action on Wednesday taking on nationally ranked The College of Wooster.
