Baseball Edges CSI in Extras

Union, N.J. (3/25/18)John Carello drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th to push the Kean University baseball team to a 9-8 win over the College of Staten Island on Sunday afternoon.

Carello finished with three hits and three RBI, including an inside-the-park homerun.

The Cougars (8-11) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead with four runs in the first and two more in the second.  Nick Polizzano and Matt Krupa each recorded RBI singles in the first while Jimi Fitzgerald added a two RBI single.  Carello's inside the parker in the second brought home two for the quick 6-0 lead.

The Dolphins (5-5) answered quickly all with two outs in the third.  CSI used three doubles to jump into the game, 6-4.

Staten Island would tie things up in the eighth at seven-all as Glenn Glennerster produced an RBI single.

In the deciding 10th frame, Nick Meola got aboard with a two out, ground rule double.  Frank Muzzio followed with an RBI single through the ride side for CSI's first lead of the day.

Pinch-hitter Steve Santigate was a foot away from a walk-off two run homerun, but settled for an RBI double to tie things up.  Two batters later, Carello gave Kean the win with an RBI single to right.

Jean Sapini (1-2) earned his first collegiate victory with two and two things innings of relief.  He allowed one run and five hits.

Kean returns to action on Tuesday when they host St. Joseph's College-Long Island.
