Union, N.J. (4/29/18) – The Kean University baseball team closed out the regular season with a 17-0 loss to Rutgers-Camden on Sunday afternoon in rescheduled NJAC baseball action.
It was the second time in the season series that the Scarlet Raptors (24-13, 12-6 NJAC) registered 17 runs against the Cougars (19-21, 9-9 NJAC).
Rutgers-Camden jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the first two innings, collecting nine hits in the process. Matt Yanik collected three RBI in the span.
Kean's two hits came from Nick Polizzano who laced a double in the first inning into the gap and a bloop single down the rightfield line from Steve Bullen in the ninth.
Offensively Yanik was 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Chris Jones was 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored and Nolan Gerold was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Carter Fichter (6-2) earned the win after striking out four in six innings of shutout ball. He allowed one hit.
Rutgers-Camden will host Rowan University on Tuesday with Kean traveling to Ramapo also on Tuesday in the first round of the NJAC Tournament. All teams will then move to Kean for the predetermined site beginning on Friday.
