UNION, N.J. (10/19/19) – Melissa Way and
Jenna Patrone each tallied two goals as the No. 11 Kean University field hockey team established a new single-season winning streak at 16 games with a 6-0 shutout victory over Keystone College on Saturday afternoon.
Lia DiPiazza notched a goal and assist for the No. 11 Cougars who improve to 16-1 overall.
Megan Novak recorded 20 saves for the Giants who fall to 7-7 overall.
Patrone and DiPiazza recorded all their points in the first half as Kean held a 3-0 lead at halftime. Patrone's goals bookended the opening stanza with DiPiazza scoring off the keeper's save in the 20
th minute and assisting on Patrone's 15
th goal of the season in the 26
th minute.
Kean added three insurance goals in the second half.
Erin Donnelly notched her fourth goal of the season as she played the ball off a defenders stick for the 4-0 lead in the 44
th minute. Way inched even closer towards breaking the single-season record for goals as she scored twice in the final 10 minutes, including recording her first career penalty stroke goal in the 53
rd minute.
The Cougars held the Giants shot less (37-0) and cornerless (33-0) for the entire contest. Way tallied a game-high 11 shots, while Donnelly recorded seven and Patrone totaled six.
Belly Reynoso also tied the single-season record for goalie wins after just playing the first half.
Megan Houser and
Jenna Flemings each played a quarter to finish out the game.
