Men’s Soccer Bows Out of NCAA Tournament

CORTLAND, N.Y. (11/14/21) – Santi Alzate scored as the Kean University men's soccer team fell to #5 SUNY Cortland, 3-1 in an NCAA Tournament second round matchup on Sunday evening.

Jack Coleman, Anthony Ruggiero, and Blake Aronson all scored for the Red Dragons who improve to 18-2-1 overall and advance to next Friday's NCAA Quarterfinal against #19 Amherst. Felix Pereyra assisted on the lone goal for the Cougars who finish their season at 13-5-3 overall.

The Red Dragons struck quick with two goals in the first 24 minutes to take a commanding 2-0 lead. Kean got on the scoreboard in the 36th minute when Pereyra made a quick pass to Alzate, who fired from just outside the 18-yard box.

In the second half, Cortland notched an insurance goal in the 62nd minute to increase their lead to 3-1.

Cortland led on shots (19-12) and shots on goal (10-5), while Kean held the advantage on corner kicks (3-2).

Alzate recorded four shots, while Gabe Llanos tallied two. Daniel Calderon, Raonne Dias, Kelvin Gyamfi, Nikolaos Theoudoulidis, Danny Guillen and Isaac Guerrero all recorded one shot apiece. Dominic Ridge made seven saves in 90 minutes of work.
