UNION, N.J. (3/23/21) – Maddie Carlson finished 4-for-6 with three RBI's and three runs scored as the #8 Kean University Softball team remained unbeaten with a doubleheader sweep of Rutgers-Camden in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

Taryn DiGiacomo improved to 3-0 in the circle and recorded her 41st career victory in a three-hit shutout of the Scarlet Raptors (0-1) in the opener. DiGiacomo struck out five batters in seven innings of work as the senior extended her scoreless streak to 17 innings and moves into a tie for fourth place all-time on the career wins' list.
At the plate, Carlson went 2-for-3 with three RBI's and a run scored, while DiGiacomo finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Jenn Majorczak also went 2-for-3 with a run scored as the Cougars posted their fifth straight victory and their third shutout of the season.
Kean scored four of their five runs in the first with a three RBI double by Carlson and an RBI single by Majorczak. The Cougars added an insurance run in the fifth with an RBI double by
Gabriella Fredette.
Kean 10, Rutgers-Camden 1 (6 Inn.)
Skylar Hengeveld went 2-for-2 with three RBI's, while
Paige Metz finished 2-for-4 with a homerun, two runs scored and an RBI as the Cougars (6-0) battled back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Scarlet Raptors (0-2) in the nightcap.
Kean trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the first as Metz evened the contest at 1-1 with her first career homerun to left center.
Kean built upon that run in the second with four runs, including an RBI by
Gianna Pickens and two bases loaded walks for Hengeveld and
Heather Clevenger. Kean took a commanding 6-1 lead. The Cougars scored insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Hengeveld in the sixth.
Clevenger improved to 2-0 in the circle with four strikeouts.
