#20 Softball Drops NJAC Doubleheader to Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. (4/18/21) – Julie Raba and Taryn DiGiacomo both tallied three hits apiece over two games as the #20 Kean University softball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader to Rowan University on Sunday afternoon.

Rowan 6, Kean 1
Paige Metz finished 1-for-3 with a homerun, an RBI and a run scored, while Raba went 1-for-3 as the Cougars (16-3, 6-3 NJAC) were held to just two hits in the five run loss to the Profs (17-4, 11-0 NJAC).

Emily August had a no-hitter intact and Rowan held a 6-0 lead when Kean came to the plate in the seventh. Metz's led off the inning by braking up August's no-hitter with a solo homerun to left field for the Cougars lone run of the opening contest. Raba recorded Kean's only other hit of the game with a bunt single two batters later.

DiGiacomo fanned 10 batters in the complete game loss.

Rowan 4, Kean 3
DiGiacomo went 3-for-4, while Sarah Zengel, Jenn Majorczak and Raba all finished 2-for-4 as the Cougars (16-4, 6-4 NJAC) late game rally came up short against the Profs (18-4, 12-0 NJAC) in the nightcap.

Rowan held a 3-0 lead entering the top of the fifth as the Profs tallied single runs in the first, third and fourth innings. In the fifth, Kean responded by tying the game up at 3-3 with three runs on five hits. Maddie Carlson drove in two runs with an RBI double to right field and Nicole Vassallo added the game-tying run with an RBI single that scored the aforementioned Carlson.

This would be the closest the Cougars would get as Rowan scored the eventually go-ahead run in the sixth.

Karly Messina struck out two batters in the complete game loss.

Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 20th, hosting the Pioneers of William Paterson for an NJAC doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
