Montclair, N.J. (4/23/21) – Montclair State University used 10 early runs to power past the Kean University baseball team by the final of 15-8 on Friday afternoon.
The Cougars (12-9, 7-5 NJAC) broke through with three runs in the fourth. The offensive surge continued from there as the Red Hawks (16-5, 8-4 NJAC) added five more to jump out to a 15-3 lead.
Kean chipped away and plated the final five runs of the day, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit.
Michael Medvetz was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two walks for the Cougars while Joe Norton was 4-for-5 with three runs scored for MSU.
Gianni Marano saw three and a third innings of action on the mound in relief as he settled the Red Hawks to just three hits and no runs down the stretch. He walked one and struck out four.
Kean returns home to face Rutgers-Camden in doubleheader fashion on Saturday.
