Atlantic City, N.J. (5/14/21) – Top seeded Rowan University swept their way into the championship series by defeating the Kean University baseball team, 10-4 and 7-1 on Friday afternoon.
Game One – Rowan 10, Kean 4
Kean (17-15) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second as Zachary Marzano recorded an RBI groundout and Chris Ciaccio doubled home Mike Lapczynski.
The Profs (23-4) used two big innings to put the game out of reach. The first was a six-spot in the bottom of the third, capped by a two run homer from Ryan Murphy, giving Rowan the lead for good, 6-2.
The Cougars cut the deficit in half with two runs in the fourth with an RBI single from Conner DeForge and an RBI double from Lapczynski, but the Profs put the game out of reach with four more in the fifth for the final.
Ciaccio was 3-for-4.
Game Two – Rowan 7, Kean 1
Kean pushed across the first run of the contest, a solo shot from Brandon Johannessen in the bottom of the fourth. Rowan took the lead for good one inning later with three separate RBI singles.
Philip Mahlik was 3-for-5 for Kean in the loss.
