UNION, N.J. (10/11/12) – Five different players notched a goal as the #8 Kean University field hockey team earned a 5-2 non-conference victory over the University of Mary Washington on Tuesday evening.
Ja'Carra Jackson and
Morgan Stump both tallied a goal and an assist for the Cougars who improve to 11-2 overall. Maggie Legum and Emma Bernard both scored for the Eagles who fall to 4-8 overall.
Kean scored three times in the opening stanza before UMW answered with a goal in the 19
th minute. Stump opened the scoring for the half with a penalty stroke goal in the third minute. Jackson increased the Cougars lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal in the 11
th minute. Kean notched a third goal in the 17
th minute when
Maddison Gonzales scored on a lifted ball that was fed in by Jackson.
Mary Washington opened the second half by cutting into Kean's lead with a goal in the 35
th minute. The Cougars responded with two insurance goals to close out the third quarter.
Peyton Mann tapped in a Stump shot in the 43
rd minute.
Laura Stump scored just before the end of the quarter with a goal off a goalkeeper save.
Kean led on shots (27-19), shots on goal (21-14), and penalty corners (17-14).
Mann and Jackson both tallied six shots apiece.
Belly Reynoso and
Jenna Flemings combined for 12 saves.
