Myrtle Beach, S.C. (3/4/22) – Michael Lapczynski and Tim Huxen combined for seven RBI as the #24 Kean University baseball team moved to 10-0 with a win over Hanover College on Friday afternoon.
Huxen was 3-for-6 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBI while Lapczynski was 2-for-5 with four RBI.
The Cougars jumped out on top early as Huxen and Philip Mahlik hit back-to-back doubles following a strikeout to Kyle Adorno, who reached via an error. Mahlik drove in the game's first run and he and Huxen came around to score on an RBI single from Lapczynski for an early 3-0 lead.
Hanover got one back in the same inning as Alex Christie homered over the short porch in right in the Ebbets Field dimensions.
Kean kept things going and added two more in the second on an RBI groundout from Lapczynski and on a wild pitch that allowed Mahlik to score after he reached on another double.
The Panthers answered with a sac fly in the bottom of the second to put the score at 5-2 and added single runs in the fifth and sixth to pull within one (5-4).
Kean then put the game away in the top of the seventh as Huxen cleared the bases and Lapczynski added another RBI single.
Collin Kiernan (3-0) picked up the win with a seven and two thirds inning performance allowing five runs and 10 hits. He struck out five and walked one. Nick Nemes shut down all four batters he faced to close things out.
Kean returns to action on Saturday morning when they matchup with Cabrini University at 9 a.m.
