Complete Game Gems Help Baseball Sweep Stockton

Union, N.J. (4/8/22) – The Kean University baseball team used two complete game efforts from their starting pitching to sweep Stockton University 9-0 & 8-1 on Friday afternoon in NJAC action.

After yesterday's single game rainout, the two teams matched up for a doubleheader at Kean with the Cougars as the official home team in the opener and the Ospreys in the nightcap.

Game One

Nolan Rowan (4-0) spun a two hit, complete game shutout in the opener, carrying a perfect game into the fifth inning. Thomas Elgrim broke it up with a single with two outs in the top of the inning.  Luke Fabrizzi was the only other batter to reach base as he hit a single in the eighth.  Rowan struck out nine and walked no one facing just two batters over the minimum.

Offensively the Cougars (21-5, 4-0 NJAC) recorded 13 hits, with three hits each from Kyle Adorno, Brett Hilsheimer and Michael Lapczynski.  Lapczynski led the way with three RBI, including a two run homer down the line in the first inning.  Dylan Beyer added two hits with a double and Phil Marcantonio was 1-for-3 with two RBI and two walks.

Game Two

Dylan Taliaferro saved the bullpen with the second complete game effort of the day for the Cougars.  Taliaferro (5-0) allowed just one run and eight hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Kean jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first behind an RBI double from Phil Mahlik and an RBI single from Timothy Huxen.  The Cougars made it 6-0 with a four-run third frame.  Huxen tripled home a run and later scored on an error.  Josh Jackson later lofted his first homerun of the season, a two run shot.  The Cougars added insurance with single RBI from Mahlik in the seventh and ninth.

The Ospreys (10-12-1, 1-3 NJAC) erased the shutout in the seventh with an RBI double from Elgrim.

Adorno and Huxen each finished with three hits as Adorno crossed the plated three times in his leadoff role.  Mahlik registered three RBI.

The Cougars host William Paterson University on Saturday in doubleheader fashion.
