Softball Splits Final Day at Grand Slam Triangle Classic

RALEIGH, N.C. (3/4/23) - Sydney Hixenbaugh went 3-for-6 with a double over two games as the Kean University softball team split the final day of the Grand Slam Triangle Classic hosted by William Peace University on Saturday.

Lynchburg  8 (6-1) , Kean 0 (2-3) (6 Inn.)
  • The Hornets notched eight runs on 10 hits in a mercy rule contest.
  • Lynchburg scored six runs over the first four innings, including a two RBI triple in the first.
  • The Cougars left 12 runners on base in the loss.
  • Eliza Filus went 2-for-4, while Hixenbaugh went 2-for-3.
  • Kaleigh Hackett and Caroline Joy both finished 2-for-3 for the Hornets.
  • Hixenbaugh and Olivia Quercia combined for five strikeouts in the loss.

Kean 1 (3-3), Methodist 0 (7-5)
  • The Cougars lone run came when Autaum Hilyer reached on a Haven Williams throwing error that allowed Melody Caces to score.
  • Annabella Marino struck out three and only allowed four hits in a complete game victory.
  • Caces and Hixenbaugh both finished 1-for-3
  • Andee Perseponko went 1-for-2.
  • Haley Fethke went 3-for-3 at the dish, while Kim Bordeaux struck out four in the circle for Methodist.
Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Monday, Mar. 6th for the Fastpitch Dreams Classic against Rosemont College at 9:00 a.m. and Regis at 1:00 p.m.
