Leesburg, Fla. (3/14/24) – The Kean University softball split in their final day at the Spring Games by defeating McDaniel College, 6-4, and falling to University of Wisconsin-Platteville, 10-8.
Game One – Kean 6, McDaniel 4
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Trailing 3-2 in the third inning, the Cougars (9-4) took the lead for good as Andee Perseponko connected on a two out, two RBI single. She would come around to score on an error one batter later for a 5-3 Kean lead.
The Cougars added insurance in the top of the sixth as Karly Messina recorded an RBI single with two outs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Perseponko was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Eliza Filus, Bella Truelove and Messina each had two hits.
Game Two – UW-Plateville 10, Kean 8
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars fell behind 5-0 early, but clawed their way back and tied things up at eight-all in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, Messina singled to drive in two and knot things at eight-all.
Platteville scored the winning runs in the top of the seventh. Allison Peters doubled home two for what would be the final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Melody Caces was 5-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI while Filus was 3-for-4 with two RBI.
UP NEXT:
Kean enjoys a break and will travel to Drew University next Wednesday.
