Pitman, N.J. (3/29/25) - #4 Rowan University swept the Kean University softball team in the NJAC opener for both.

Game One – Rowan 5, Kean 4

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Cougars (9-13, 0-2 NJAC) jumped out first with two runs in the fourth.  Maya Thompson recorded an RBI double and Kiley Petak later added an RBI single.

Kean added one more in the sixth as Gina Mahlik doubled home Thompson who reached on a two-out single.

The Profs responded in the bottom of the same inning and took the lead with four runs.  Rowan tied things up with a wild pitch, RBI triple and RBI single.  They took the lead with two outs on an RBI double.

The Cougars tied things up in the seventh with an RBI single from Andee Perseponko and appeared to take the lead on a hit to left, but the inning ended on a runner-left-early controversial call.

The Profs scored the winning run in extras with two outs in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Thompson and Mahlik each finished with two hits, including a double each.

Game Two – Rowan 5, Kean 2

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Trailing 2-0 in the fourth, the Cougars cut the deficit in half with a solo homer from Thompson.

Kean then tied it up in the fifth on an RBI single from Bella Truelove.

The Profs then took the lead for good in the same inning with an RBI double, sac fly and RBI infield hit.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

McKenzie Melvin was the only player who recorded a multi-hit performance in the night cap.
