Kings Point, N.Y. (3/21/26) – The Kean University baseball team won their seventh straight with a doubleheader sweep of United States Merchant Marine Academy 5-3 and 13-3.
Kean 5, USMMA 3 (Game One – 7 innings)
The Cougars (13-3-1) plated single runs in the first and third to take a 2-0 lead. Jude Clough collected a sac fly in the first and Michael Simone scored on an error in the third.
The Mariners (5-4) then took the lead in the third with a three-run frame aided with four hits and a walk.
Kean regained the lead for good in the fifth as Nick Sellari scored on a wild pitch and Clough registered an RBI double.
The Cougars added insurance in the seventh Dominic Masino scored on an error after reaching on a leadoff single.
Anthony Marano (3-0) earned the win after tossing four innings. Cal Chase earned his second save with three innings of shutout ball, allowing just one hit.
Kean 13, USMMA 3 (Game Two)
The Cougars fell behind 2-0 early as USMMA lofted a two-run homer in the first inning.
Kean quickly responded with six runs in the second to take the lead for good. They collected five hits in the frame.
Leading 7-2 heading into the fifth, Kean added three more. Highlighting the inning was a two RBI double from Justin Teixeira.
Tyler Stone rounded out the scoring in the seventh with a two RBI single after the Cougars loaded the bases with two outs.
Stone was 3-for-3 with four RBI while Teixeira was 2-for-4 with three RBI. In total, Kean recorded 16 hits as 22 players saw action in the nightcap.
Christian Pareja (2-0) earned the win. He tossed six innings allowing two runs and six hits. He fanned six.
Kean returns to action on Tuesday when they host Misericordia.
