Anzivino Nets Hat Trick in Women's Soccer Victory, 4-0

UNION, N.J. (9/30/06) - Kean University senior forward Heather Anzivino (Belford, N.J.) recorded her third hat trick of the season to lead the Cougars past Ramapo College in New Jersey Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday evening. The victory improved Kean to 7-2 overall, 3-2 in the NJAC, while Ramapo dropped to 4-5-1 overall, 1-3 in the conference.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the first half, as senior midfielder Brienne Campbell (Freehold, N.J.) delivered a corner kick into the box that senior midfielder Lisa Battaglia (Gibbstown, N.J.) headed off a Roadrunner defender and into the net in the 26th minute.

Anzivino added a pair of goals in the opening 11 minutes of the second half, the first off a breakaway pass from senior forward Allison Fream (Point Pleasant, N.J.) and second off a corner kick from Campbell to increase the Cougar lead to 3-0. The senior netted the final goal of the game with less that six minutes remaining, as she scored the breakaway goal off the assist from freshman midfielder Kelly Rigano (Scotch Plains, N.J.).

The Cougars held a 21-2 edge in shots and a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks, as sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Groh (Mason, Mich.) recorded one save in the shutout victory.

For the Roadrunners, freshman keeper Jessica DaRold (Sayreville, N.J.) made seven saves.

Kean returns to action on Monday, October 2, when they host Lebanon Valley College in non-conference action at 7:30 p.m.
