Baseball Rallies Past TCNJ,
10-6
Ewing, N.J. (4/22/10) – Junior
Nick Nolan was 4-for-5 and freshman Steve
Nappe drove in four as Kean University rallied to defeat
host The College of New Jersey, 10-6, Tuesday afternoon at Ackerman
Park.
In a game that included four lead-changes, a rain delay, and a
lightning delay, Kean (21-9, 7-4 NJAC) sealed the win with a four
run ninth inning. TCNJ has their six game conference win
streak snapped and falls to 15-14, 8-4 in conference play.
The Lions struck first with a run in the first on a sacrifice
fly. Kean responded with two runs in the second. Sophomore
Lee Cavico singled and advanced
to third when Nolan doubled to left-center field. Cavico came home
on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Nappe and Eddie
Jennings singled to drive in Nolan (pictured right) giving
the Cougars a 2-1 lead.
The Cougars tacked on single runs in the fourth and sixth
innings, with an RBI double by Dylan Laguna and a
sacrifice fly by Ryan Gibbons. But the
Lions' offense awakened in the bottom of the sixth inning
with four runs off five hits and a Cougar miscue to give the Lions
a 5-4 lead.
The lead was short-lived as Nolan's two-run single in the
seventh drove in junior Ken Gregory and Cavico to
regain the lead. The Cougars added insurance in the ninth as
Nolan added an RBI double and Nappe (pictured left) launched a
three run homerun.
Nolan finished with three RBI and a pair of stolen bases. Cavico
and Laguna also had three hits on the day.
Stephen Montalbano threw three and two-thirds
innings of relief to earn the win.
